Cybercity – 2010
Wakefield Cybercity 2010 was an innovative multidisciplinary media art project between Wakefield Council, Wakefield College, Hemsworth Arts & Community College, Beam and three German based artists – Graham and Christina Smith and Anja Bardey.
It formed part of the wider trans-national art and public realm project, The Third Eye.
The main idea of the project was to connect individuals, institutions and groups from different areas in Europe in an artistic, technological, educational and cultural exchange. Participants came from several school projects in various cities in the Ruhr district in Germany, a three-part project in the City of Wakefield (Wakefield Cybercity 2010) and projects in the Randstad district in the Netherlands.
This exhibition explored ideas relating to this project for the future of Wakefield, both physical and virtual.
Habitat
Habitat has evolved to become a shelter from the
elements that over time have eroded these large geological fragments
brought here by a distant ice age.
Recorded in ink, pencil and paint from isolated locations in Scotland,
France and Spain, these monolithic forms cast long shadows and memories.
Scarred with marks, signs and measurements of time, ordeals and
achievements.
Everyones Habitat experience is different, this one I carry with me.
Cybercity
Cybercity here becomes an energy, a force to release ‘Habitat’ into a virtual space
were communication is paramount and the isolation of the cave is a distant thing.
Cybercity is a global language, a dialogue between the physical and virtual Worlds.
Here tall building / tower structures grow and seed like electronic flowers,
pollonating cyberspace with light, sound and information.
Hot spots like a telephone box, wired without wires.
Everyones Cybercity experience is different, this one I carry with me.
