Sean Mannion. MA
As a visual artist, I am concerned with creating paintings, drawings and digital imagery.
I respond to different themes and subject matter, to what I see, hear or feel.
This entails the creation of pieces for different environments and settings, and pieces in response to specific sites using canvas as originals, drawings or digital prints. These pieces can vary in size from centimetres, to several metres.
I have responded to requests for large, site specific projects, poetry, illustrated prose, made a painting for an animated walk-through, created a piece for a Cathedral interior and large office atria, gallery spaces and office walls, and created an art – led design for modern commercial architecture.
Research is very important for my learning and continuing professional development as this leads to discussion with regard to how to develop the pieces further.
I am drawn to natural forms, often overlapping sketches and ideas from one place, with those from another, using computers as an electronic sketchbooks , layering historic and modern forms and landscapes, to create new compositions.
I love colour, form and space as seen in nature, and how this interfaces with architectural relics. I am interested in how these over time, dissolve back into one another. The final pieces are always paintings, using traditional methods.
